I was going to talk about how I hate new towels that leave little lint balls all over your body when you dry off. But how much can you say about that, except ... "WASH THEM FIRST, YOU (BUY-CHEAP-TOWELS) IDIOT!"
So instead, I feel like going on a tirade about ... being a white American (with colored lint balls stuck to my body).
A study by Citizen Action of New York says Manhattan juries are too white. Blacks, Asians and Hispanics are severely under-represented in jury pools there.
Three out of four people who (and here's the operative phrase) "show up" for jury duty are white, even though they only represent half of the population.
Hum. Well, hopefully those who show up can speak English.

I am so very tired of making calls and being connected to INDIA!!! Hello..... I cant even understand them (aol call)Going into lowes store there are signs in spanish, wtf. Where do we live? My nephew is 7 and said he is going to take a language, he choose spanish, I asked why, he replied everyone here speaks it. This is from a 7 year old.

It's a sad day when we have to try to enact a law stating that English is the language of the USA...used to be a no-brainer.
NJ and NY are now a global village. Do not think the language problem is for Spanish only. The sign is The Hilton Casino in AC is also in "Mandarin". A Social Worker first language i3 Japanese. There are Russian signs in Coney Island and Brighton Beach.Hay, let's include all languages when we dial up the phone and hear a Spanish option!!!!!
A friend went to the customer service desk at a grocery store. There were three people standing there. Not one could help her, because none of them spoke English.
On the contrary, being a white, English-speaking American of German and Slovak descent, I LOVE pressing 1 for English. Let the poor Spanish-speakers have their own button. In fact, I think German speakers should have their own button, too, along with Italians, Russians, French (naw, screw them!), Danes, Lituanians, Portuguese...you get the picture.
Or, better yet, have stores such as Lowes, and all the other companies, take down their Spanish signs. Do away with bilingual ballots and job applications (If they can't read the campaign literature or newspapers, how can they make an informed voting decision? If they can't communicate with customers, how can they hold down a job?)
English should be the official language, period. My grandparents had to learn it, so why can't they? And why does our government allow it? It all comes down to politics. Mucho Latinos vote. If the country were, say, 15 percent German, would stores have bi- or tri-lingual signs. Ja.
My Home Owner Assoc said to leave a sign in garden if don't want the lawn service weeding or messing with our townhome gardens..only problem.. I don't know what to write in Spanish and our lawn guys are all Mexican (illegals (p.c "undocumented") I am sure,too)..they speak no English... how do I write "Do Not Touch This Garden" in Spanish?..anyone? I only know English and some French...
When my grandfather came to this country about 100 years ago, he couldn't speak a word of English.
I don't do too good at it myself.
there is no country in the whole world that puts their language last and other languages first except for us - here we are the country that feeds the world, protects the world and we have to be last and speak every other language!!! Used to be that English was the universal language taught throughout the world-now it is Number 5 on the touch tone!!!!
I agree with all the above! If you are a citizen of this country or any other country...then you should speak the language...if not...you'd better learn quickly.
The 911 operators may or may not be able to speak 12 different languages!!
