Say, what?

We are engaged in a silent battle.

I like to keep the can opener in the flatware drawer where I can easily find it; he likes to keep it in the utensil drawer (which is packed with everything else) because it impedes his search for the bottle opener in the flatware drawer.

And so it goes. Every day I move it back after he moves it out.

This has been ongoing for years. We are steadfast in our can opener-location conviction, and neither of us is willing to budge.

You'd think we'd find something more important on which to take such an unyielding stand.

Buy an extra one for the other drawer..for $5-$10 is a simpler, cheaper solution than $500-$1000 couples therapy bills! Now that's the can-do attitude!

But alas, he never uses the can opener and says it's in his way in the flatware drawer.

I think the fact that you can compromise on the large issues, but stand your ground on small issues shows that you two still have some independence. I think it's great! That is what a good relationship is made of. Keep moving the can opener, but agree on the major events.

Make sure you never serve him anything made from a can's contents since he claims he never uses the can opener. Give him his own flatware drawer or get another for you ( with your can opener) or, tell him buh-bye!

Could be worse.
My hubby places other stuff on the top shelves where I cannot reach it!

You sound pretty normal to me.

My wife and I have been happily married for 22 years. We haven't yet been able to come to an agreement on whether the toilet paper should hang "under" or "over."

Tell Spud to get a life! Life is too short to ponder on can openers.

Simple. Each of you carry a can opener from an Army-Navy surplus store on your keychain. Just don't carry it with you on an airplane.

Now of course, the debate becomes where does each of you leave the keys. I'm sure one prefers a key hook, the other on the table....
